Hi all,
I have decided to begin to post my thoughts as I read through the Bible this year. We are already well on our way and there is little time to slack when the task is reading four chapters a day. One of the first things that is proving to be important in this endeavor is discipline. It does not take long for chapters to mount up if a couple of days go by without tending to the reading. I suppose it will be possible to read large sections of text in order to catch up but there will be something missing if daily attention is rarely given to reading. If you've been reading you will be through a lot of the New testament and into 1 Corinthians 3-7 today.
Some people have been telling me they have been reading two chapters in the morning and two at night. Others have been reading all four first thing in the morning and still others four in the evening as they prepare for bed. One couple has been reading it aloud together, alternating chapters. I love that. Tell me about your form of discipline; when and how you spend your time reading through the Bible.

Hi James! Jon and I both want to do more bible reading. Do you have a schedule of readings for each day or week of the year? I am too late to read through with everyone. However even if I were read say, 2 of the 4 chapters of the daily reading from here on, I'm sure it would be beneficial! I am also thinking of trying a different translation, maybe the Message. Also, now that the holidays are over, maybe we can all get together and finally meet Christy too! Take care!
ReplyDeleteHey Jen,
ReplyDeleteThere are others who are reading the Message too. I enjoy the modern language translation. I am reading the NIV (New International Translation.) We are going to be starting in Genesis 1 on March 7th so you could start reading there now and be close to the reast of the group. I think if you have a goal of reading the entire bible by the end of the year you will need to read 3-4 chapters a day. There is a bible translation out there are maps out a yearly reading schedule too.
Hi Pastor,
ReplyDeleteThis is from Al and Pam. Question from I John
Chapter 5 verses 16-17. John talks of sin that leads to death. Is there a specific sin ? Isn't all sin leads to death if not confessed and repented.
